Our Architecture
The cottages and cabins of Cloudland Station represent the beautiful brushstrokes carefully applied to a canvas already rich in color and beauty. In fact our Design Guidelines are entitled "Brushstrokes" and reflect the architecture of period homes dating from the early 1800's through the early 1900s and found scattered about an old southern province. So rather than a single period, Cloudland Station reflects the authentic evolution and variation in style that occurs in real history over a long period of time. Similarly, as styles and typologies varied in time, they also varied based upon there proximity to town - so it is at Cloudland Station. Cottages with folk victorian nuances will be more prevalent in the town, while rustic cabins will be found more in the canopies of the mountain. More transitional farm cottages will be found in the coves and valleys in between.
Cloudland Station provides several exclusive concept plans designed by Durham Crout Architecture, LLC, a renown period design firm, per our Brushstrokes Design Guidelines (see slideshow below). In addition, we also provide and support custom home design processes as well. Also, in spirit of both conservationism and getting back to the simple things, Brushstrokes has a maximum foot print size rather than a minimum, creating the charm of America's First CottageTowne. View the “Cottages and Cabins” slideshow below to see a sampling of conceptual elevations of homes that exemplify the style of architecture envisioned by Brushstrokes. Also, view the “Architectural Brushstrokes” to get a taste of the handcrafted, architectural elements that already dot our landscape.
